Why it matters

A programme is a contract document. Reviewers read it like one.

Who it’s for

For anyone who builds, reviews or relies on a programme

Starting out

Aspiring planners

Engineers, quantity surveyors and site staff moving into planning who want the P6 skills employers test at interview.

Building

Planners and schedulers

You build programmes every week and want them accepted first time, with fewer comments and resubmissions.

Reviewing

Project controls teams

You review contractor programmes and need to spot weak logic, hidden float and unrealistic dates quickly.

Owning

Project managers

You own the programme and want to read float and the critical path with confidence, without waiting for a planner to translate.

What you’ll learn

By the end of the session you’ll be able to

Practical ways of thinking about P6 methods that you can take into your own work.

  • Recognise how a project brief can inform a WBS in P6.
  • Understand the purpose of calendars and activities in a programme.
  • Identify the role of logic, lags and constraints in explaining a programme.
  • Read the purpose of total float and the critical path, including how constraints can affect interpretation.
  • Understand how what-if analysis and a DCMA 14-point check can inform schedule review.
  • Know what an NEC4 Project Manager checks under clause 31 before accepting a programme.

Grounded in recognised practice

Real contracts. Real scrutiny.

The introductory methods in this session line up with the guidance that clients, reviewers and adjudicators rely on.
